For centuries Zen Buddhists have recognized that the austere presentation of a single object — a single blossom rather than a full bouquet, for example — allows the viewer to more fully appreciate it's beauty. In this same way, David hopes that his minimalist images facilitate a deeper understanding of his subjects. He has chosen to use long exposures and carefully selected compositions to filter out what he calls the "visual noise" of everyday life, thus revealing the fundamental essence of our natural world.
